Jim Ash began his photography career at the age of 10 with his
mother’s old Kodak box camera.  Fascinated by the art, at the age of 14 he was working at a portrait studio as an assistant and in the lab.  After high school he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in the South Pacific in 1945 and 1946 as a photographer.  After the war he continued as a newspaper photographer, manager of a camera store and photo lab, and through college, law school and his legal career he continued his photographic activities.  Following retirement from the law he continued photography as a full-time effort and has been recognized as a superlative portrait and fine art photographer.

Jim's images have been displayed at the University of California Museum of Photography and at several galleries throughout the country.  He is a member of the Professional Photographers of America and is Secretary of the Virginia Professional Photographers Association.
